Terrence Trammell will put his 60-meter hurdles crown on the line this Friday when he takes the track at Madison Square Garden for the 103rd Millrose Games.
TT will have his hands full defending the title on Friday with competition from two of the world's best.
Terrence will be seeking revenge against reigning World 110m hurdles champion Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados, who crossed the line a tenth of a second faster than TT in the world championships. Also lining up alongside Terrence will be World Decathalon Champion Trey Hardee, making for a star-studded field, as noted by the USATF:
"Other Olympic medalists in the field include two-time silver medalist Terrence Trammell, who will be a favorite in the highly anticipated men's 60m hurdles. Trammell, who first won this event at Millrose in 2001 and enters as the defending champ, will be challenged by 2009 World decathlon champion Trey Hardee, who entered this year ranked #1 in the world in that event by Track & Field News. Also keep an eye on reigning World Outdoor 110m hurdles champion Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados, and Aries Merritt of the U.S., who finished the 2009 season ranked #7 in the world and won the 60m hurdles at Millrose in 2007."
Terrence returns to the "World's Most Famous Arena" for the first time since his strong showing at Millrose last year, when he came within .03 of a second from winning both 60 meter events, as reported by the IAAF:
"Trammell returns to MSG after nearly pulling off a unique double at last year's Millrose Games. Trammell dominated the men's 60m Hurdles by crossing the finish line first in 7.45 seconds, which was the second-fastest time in the world that year, and just 0.02 off Allen Johnson's Millrose Games record. Trammell then finished runner-up in the flat 60m in 6.54, just 0.03 behind Michael Rodgers, who would later take the U.S. indoor title.
Trammell, who won his third World Outdoor Championships 110m hurdles silver medal last year in Berlin, posted the fastest 60m hurdles time of 2009 at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games with his time of 7.37."
TT was thrilled with his performance last season in his first event after his Olympic games injury exit:
"I think it went really well," Terrence said after competing. "Both of those races were my best openers. I've never run 7:45 in the hurdles on the first race and I've never run 6.50-anything in the 60. So, I'm really happy with how things went. It's a good measurement of how my training is going and my fitness levels."
The victory propelled TT into the Visa Series, which he eventually won with a grand total of 1,259 points. The series title was capped by a meet record at the USA Indoor Championships in Boston, where Terrence posted a 7.38 in the 60m hurdles and missed the American Record by just a tenth of a second. He also claimed 2009 silver medals at the 2009 USA Outdoor Championships and 2009 World Athletics Championships.
Terrence is hopeful that Millrose, where he is once again the favorite, can serve as a launching pad into an even better 2010. The 60-meter hurdles championship is scheduled for a 6:30 pm. EST start time and ESPN2 will have the highlights of every meet starting at 8 p.m.
