Millrose Win Sends T2 Hurdling into 2010
by Devon Jeffreys

If the first race of a new year is any indication, it could be another banner year for Terrence Trammell. Terrence started off 2010 with a bang on Friday with a victory in the 60m hurdles at the 103rd Millrose games at Madison Square Garden.

T2 was the only hurdler to hit the finish line under 7.5 with a 7.49, ahead of Ryan Brathwaite of Barbados by .12 of a second.

"I'm happy with the win," Terrence said after the race. "I did expect to run just a little bit faster. I guess just doing the first start of the year with the new rule, I guess the system hadn't really been worked out."

The 60m hurdles was one of the first races of the year to feature a false start, which, thanks to a rule change is now grounds for disqualification. Frenchman Garfield Darien was disqualified after the start forcing the other racers back to the block.

"We had a clean race, I think the new rule is good for the sake of expediting start time and time that we actually have a clean race. I'm definitely in favor," Terrence said. "Through every level of track and field there's been no false starts. So I think it's good to have continuation and conformity as far as track and field is concerned."

After the false start, T2 admitted he was a little slower on the second run, but he was still head and shoulders above the rest.

"I didn't feel as aggressive the second time around as I did the first start, but I know my strong point isn't going to the first hurdle, it's going through the first hurdle," T2 said.

His finish of 7.45 was just four hundredths of a second behind the pace that won him the event last year. With back-to-back wins, Terrence has now claimed three 60m hurdles titles at Millrose.

"Madison Square Garden and the Millrose Games are both historical places in the sport," Terrence said. "The equivalent to indoor track and field's Rose Bowl. It's always an honor for me to compete."

Terrence's run also featured him wearing some of his newest TrackStar Apparel, which fans and runners can find out more about on Facebook.

"TrackStar Apparel - my new uniform, going pinstripes this year," Terrence said. "Feel free to make that significant to help move sales and awareness. I'm looking to do some things in early Spring as far as selling to the public. There are a couple of high school teams and colleges in the south that I have outfitted. I'm looking to continue growth."
